Darci was raised on a diary farm bordering the MN River in Lac Qui Parle County, MN. She graduated from the Montevideo High School and Granite Falls Vocational School. She worked as a medical secretary until she decided to be a stay-at-home Mom when her daughter was born. It was then she started designing and making cloth dolls at home and her business was called "Darci's Dolls". She did craft sales and sold the dolls from her home as well as some consigning of them. There was an old motel located next to her husband's auto service business in Clara City and they had occasionally kidded about buying it and Darci opening a quilt shop there. In 2001 they purchased the motel and her dream was to become a reality. Her husband, Owen, completely remodeled the building. With Owen's carpentry abilities and Darci's creative help, they have designed a "rustic" and "inviting" quilt shop in rural Minnesota. In December of 2002 she opened her shop "Shades of the Past". She started with one room and has since added a classroom and work area. Darci designs patterns, hold classes on quilting, rug hooking, punch needle embroidery, needle felting and penny rugs. She also does custom machine embroidery work. Her shop specializes in wools and woolfelt. She has many patterns and samples and kits in her shop. Darci has a strong faith in God and is very dedicated to her family. A quilt hangs in her store reflecting "The Strengths of Life" which for her is "Faith", "Family", and "Friends". If you have the opportunity to meet her, you will know that He lives within her heart. She has a very warm, friendly and caring personality. Darci and her family which includes her husband, Owen, daughter Lacey who assists in the store, and son Joseph. They enjoy caring racing and snooping in antique shops on days away from their businesses. Darci is also an accomplished piano player and plays in their church.
