Artist Biography:
Celeste Suter has lived in the Midwest for more than half of her life. Her life objective is to creatively express and to be joyfully connected to all that is. She is inspired by the talent of artists in a wide range of mediums both in the Upper Minnesota River Valley, the region and around the world.

While she has been sewing since she was in the 3rd grade, crocheting for over 30 years, crafting for more than 20 years and working with fiber for the last 5 years, Celeste has found her passion in working with the spinning wheel, loom and "pointy sticks". After working with a dream coach for several months (and after years of searching for her true occupation and finding a few that definitely weren't her), Celeste happily and enthusiastically states, "I finally know what I want to be when I grow up!"

Celeste was a recipient of an Emerging Artist Grant awarded by the Southwest Arts and Humanity Council in 2006.

She can be seen hawking her wares at a number of area arts and craft shows, fiber fairs and has been a participant in the Meander-Upper Minnesota Valley Art Crawl for the last 4 years.

Her work with fiber, spinning, weaving and knitting, help her feel connected to the animals, which provide her with wool, some of whom she has met personally! While she has no flock of her own, with the exception of a white angora rabbit, she loves to support local, small family sheep and alpaca farms (amazingly there are many within 50 miles of her home!) as well as fair trade companies.

In her studio and shop in Montevideo, she sells her own handspun yarn and fiber creations. She also carries a line of silk yarns and felted wool cases made by a fair trade cooperative in Nepal that allows the women artisans to earn a living wage. The gorgeous hand dyed wool yarns are from a Connecticut company that buys wool from small family sheep farmers and then hand dyes each skein in a delicious range of colors.

In line with her love of sewing, Celeste is beginning production of a line of Renaissance Faire costumes. Her latest commission was for a cardinal's costume. Her own costume won second place in a costume contest at the Minnesota Renaissance Faire in 2006. Her faire character is a spinner and weaver...naturally!

She welcomes visitors to her store in Montevideo to browse the selection of yarns and handcrafted items, watch her weave, spin or knit (and join her if you wish) and to peruse the knitting, sewing and quilting supplies sold there. Enjoy!
