Original knitting patterns, glass beads, wool yarns, hand-knit garmets, & accessories.
Donna Bevelhymer learned the craft of needlework from both of her parents when she was seven. Two years ago she started her business, Donna's Delights and in March of 2004 expanded, moving from her Wegdahl garage to a storefront in downtown Montevideo.
Bevelhymer offers a wide variety of needlework tools, including a variety of yarns, patterns, buttons, books and beads. Some of her merchandise, such as bamboo and wooden needles, shell and locally made deer antler buttons or fine quality wool yarns, is not available anywhere else in town. As a matter of fact; Bevelhymer "raises her own wool"? and it is not uncommon to hear her announce, "This is 100 percent Rosie from my backyard"?. Bevelhymer has three sheep and refines the wool herself.
Bevelhymer also offers classes for those who would like to learn needlework. They range from beginners to advanced and include things like making hats, socks or mittens. Students say her classes are kind of social hour and don't really feel like class, more like hanging out with friends. Bevelhymer encourages those who feel they don't have the time to come and try. "It takes 30 minutes to learn how to knit and then spending the time doing it "Ò at least 10 minutes a day."?
Bevelhymer also creates her own patterns and has sold her doll clothes patterns to a company which distributes nationwide. Her wool caps were used in the movie, "Wedding Photo"? which was recently filmed in Montevideo and those patterns are available in her store. Bevelhymer also creates custom made patterns, both for specific yarn and wools and customer's sizes.
Donna's Delights is not only for women but Bevelhymer admits most of the men who come in are there for their wives. Although, one man bought a skein of yarn to use as a baffle for his bow to silence the "twang"? of the string. Several boys in town have taken classes and knitting may become the "new rage: among young people as they can create according to their individual tastes.
Donna loves her new location, her business has increased, "ten fold"? and every week she meets someone new. Donna's Delights is located on Main Street at 110 N. 1st Street in the building formerly occupied by Radio Shack and a bookstore. Hours are 10 a.m. to
