Artist Biography:
Karen Jenson began painting in 1972 -- taking classes in the Norwegian folk art called Rosemaling at Vesterheim Museum, Decorah, Iowa. In 1979 she won the Vesterheim's Gold Medal in their National Rosemaling competion, and later won several best of show awards.

Her work has been featured in several books and has traveled to Norway twice for exhibitions at Hammar and Oslo, Norway. It has also been exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the American Swedish Institute, and the University of Minnesota Art Museum, Minneapolis, Minnesota, the White House in Washington, D.C. and numerous other places.

Karen's work can be seen in many area churches, businesses and homes in southwestern Minnesota and beyond. Among her credits is a sixty feet high mural for Hustfest, the annual celebration of Nordic culture held at Minot, ND. At the Green Lake Bible Camp in Spicer, she created, in a rosemaling-based style, 12 panels depicting professions of people in the area who use the facility. Her best-known masterpiece is the rosemaled bed that has been widely exhibited and photographed. She has served several times as a master in the folk arts apprenticeship program of the Minnesota State Arts Board.

She works from her gallery and studio in Milan, Minnesota.
