Exhibiting at Milwaukee Train Depot Directions:301 State Road (Main Street Montevideo) Artist Biography: "Everywhere I look, I see a painting waiting to be born." Michelle Thelen is currently a working artist focusing on painting with oils. Another avenue for Michelle's creativity is creating redesigned & recycled jewelry made with new and vintage pieces. She is currently taking commissions for art, participating in arts & craft shows, art crawls & exhibits. A lifelong learner and artist, she has practiced and studied a wide variety of art making styles and methods. Michelle started with arts & crafts of all kinds as a young girl, which led to drawing, doodling, photography and painting with almost everything in between. Advertising and graphic design became a profession. Health issues including Bipolar disorder currently prevent her from having a "real" 9-5 job. Art Schools, workshops, years of practice and studying with great painters has made Michelle become fluent in different painting styles & techniques. Painting Plen Aire outdoors is a fast & furious experience where she tries to capture the light and feel of the scene. Painting indoors from still life set ups or from her own photos is usually a slower, more detailed process. Michelle has participated in many Art shows/exhibits over the past 20 years, which have ranged from the St. Paul Art Crawls, in coffee houses, the Minneapolis Mayors office, various business venues, the Minnesota River National Wildlife Refuge and her favorite, a group show in Assissi Italy, 1996. Michelle has been to different art schools throughout the years, spending 2 years at each: The Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD) 2001-2003. The MN River School of Fine Art, Burnsville MN 1997–1999. The Colorado Institute of Art, Denver, 1986-1988. She also went to the U of M, Duluth for 2 years after high school for general studies and art. Workshops she's taken have ranged from book making to mask making, and most recently painting from the masters at the Minneapolis Institute of Art museum. Michelle would love to hear from you to discuss a possible custom piece or current painting, print, piece of art or jewelry.
