While taking stained glass classes in Colorado in 2003, Barbara was introduced to the world of fused glass. She finds her creative inspiration while experimenting with the fluid nature of the medium, looking forward to the somewhat unpredictable results of warm glass. Opening the kiln in the morning is often breathtaking. Barbara continues to develop her own techniques and style and embellishes her fused glass cabochons with forged Sterling silver wire. Barbara works out of her home and uses every spare moment designing and creating new projects. She has also taught herself peyote beading and has enjoyed teaching others to bead. You can view and purchase her work in the Village Craft Store in Ortonville, Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance in Morris, and on Etsy.com at www.etsy.com.intuitiveglass.com. As a member of the Big Stone Arts Council, Barbara mentored seven other members in building a fused/stained glass window commissioned by Western Minnesota Prairie Waters for the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Celebration. The finished window travelled from county to county over the summer of 2008 and is now permanently displayed at the Ortonville Historical Museum. Barbara has been happily married to her husband Rick for 29 years. They have four grown children and two granddaughters. Barbara originally earned a nursing degree in Grand Rapids, MN and a degree in human services two years later. In her spare time she volunteers for the local hospitals foundation and enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. |
